The final volume of the three-volume edition, this book features classical papers on algebraic and differential topology published in the 1950s-1960s. The partition of these papers among the volumes is rather conditional. The original methods and constructions from these works are properly documented for the first time in this book. No existing book covers the beautiful ensemble of methods created in topology starting from approximately 1950. That is, from Serre’s celebrated “singular homologies of fiber spaces.”

This book is not light reading, but if you’re working seriously in algebraic topology, it’s an excellent resource. Topological Library – Part 3: Spectral Sequences in Topology does a great job of explaining a topic that is usually intimidating and hard to approach.
The author presents spectral sequences in a structured and logical way, starting from the foundations and gradually moving toward more advanced applications. I appreciated how the concepts are motivated rather than just stated, which makes it easier to understand why spectral sequences work, not just how to compute with them.
The examples are well chosen and connect naturally to topology, especially for readers interested in homological algebra and related areas. While some prior knowledge is definitely required, the explanations are clear enough that a motivated graduate student or researcher can follow along without constantly referring to other books.
Overall, this volume feels like a serious reference work—something you return to again and again rather than read once. If you’re studying or researching topology and want a solid, rigorous treatment of spectral sequences, this book is absolutely worth having on your shelf.
